Elizabeth 'Beth' Gardner

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Margaret Gardner, age 96, on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney, Beth was the daughter of the late William and Dolena (MacKay) MacLean.
Beth worked as a receptionist for 25 years at the office of Dr. L.D. MacKenzie and also with her husband Charlie, operating Gardner Picture Framing in North Sydney.
She was the oldest member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney, and was instrumental in the construction of the present church, where she regularly attended services. Beth was involved with the church auxiliary and a former member of the church choir.
She enjoyed needlepoint, singing hymns, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving family, Kerry (Doris) Gardner, Stewiacke, Bill (Jean) Gardner, North Sydney, and Donna (Robert) Evans and Diane (Ray) Clarke, both of Sydney Mines; her nine grandchildren, Rick, George and Kenneth Gardner, Deborah Evans, Nancy Gray, Jeff and Noel Clarke, Geneve Newcombe, Andrea Gardner-Kent and also 15 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles H. Gardner in 1982 and her brother, John MacLean in 1992.
Visitation for Beth will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Saturday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday at St. Giles Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
