NEW GLASGOW – John Rubin Rector, age 71, of New Glasgow, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012 at home.
Born in Thorburn, he was a son of the late John and Verda (Clyburn) Rector.
He worked in the Thorburn Coal Mines and was a former employee of Hawker Siddeley. He was well known at the local dances by all and enjoyed his daily walks.
He is survived by daughters: Violet (Gary) Best, Churchville; Leanne (Robert Bugden), Egypt Road; Rhonda MacKenzie, Fort McMurray; Christine (Jim MacKenzie), Stellarton; Miranda (Jim MacKenzie), Trenton; son: Ross (Kim), Pictou Landing; step-daughters: Judy (Tom) Anderson, Egypt Road; Karen (Derek) Brown, Trenton; Donna Embree, Vancouver; Heather (Bradley) Ross, River Road; Sharon (Ron) Crowther, New Glasgow; grandchildren: Ashley, Megan, Stephanie, Christopher, Devan, Robert, Corey, Kenneth, Jessie, Roddie, Jamie, Marc, Blake, James, Jonathan, Shawn, Nicole, Loriann, Allison and Justin; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters: Annie (Pat) MacDonald, Pettawawa, ON; Joan Malloy, New Glasgow; Bessie (Robert) Simpson, New Glasgow; brother, John Robert Rector (Myrna), Stellarton; sister-in-law, Mary Foote, USA.
He was predeceased by his wife Christine Grace (Conway); son Robert Lawrence; brother-in-law Howard Malloy.
Visitation Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday in Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Norman Marple officiating. Reception to follow. Burial will be at a later date in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
