It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Leona Doucette-Dunphy. Mom passed away peacefully in the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in the early hours of November 16, 2012.
Leona was born in Ingonish Beach; she was the daughter of the late Tommy and Lucy (Devonish) Doucette.
Leona was a very active leader in her community. She will always be remembered for her volunteer work, kindness and commitment to other people. She was at one time employed with Parks Canada, Mom had her own business, the Harbour View Take Out in Ingonish and for many years worked along her husband, as a Fisherwoman. When mom moved to Sydney, she was a volunteer with Loaves and Fishes. Mom was well known for her ability to cook and bake; with many family and friends enjoying the end results of her skill.
Leona is survived by her son, Cecil (Colleen), Ingonish; daughters, Terri (Peter Marshe) Dunphy, Westmount; Joanne and Sharon Dunphy, Ingonish Beach; sister, Mary Doyle, Ingonish and Leona will be especially missed by her special grandchildren; Ryan (Shelley) Dunphy and Kyla (Michael Williams) Dunphy Williams, Christopher (Melissa) and Tiffany (Steven Lance) Rambeau, by her great-granddaughter Ocean Williams, and great-grandsons, Devin and Keigan Dunphy. Leona will fondly remembered by a long time family friend, Robert Manus of New York/Montreal, as well as by all who knew her for her kind and generous spirit.
Leona was predeceased by her former husband and the father of her children, Cecil Patrick Dunphy; brothers; John, Tom and Joe; sisters Jean Kanne, Rose MacNeil, Frances ‘Honey’ Donovan.
Visitation for Leona will be held at from 7-9 p.m., Sunday, November 18, with a celebration of her life to be held Monday, November 19, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating. Reception to follow, all at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Interment of cremated remains at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to Canadian Lung Association or to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit.
