It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Teresa Damude, 87, on Nov. 16, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Belleoram, N.L., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Gertude (Munden) Cluett.
After the tragic SS Caribou sinking in 1942, which took the lives of her mother and two youngest sisters, Abigail and Vera, she lived in North Sydney and Glace Bay, then moved to St. Catharines, Ont., where she raised her family and worked as a nurse’s aide for many years until her retirement.
Teresa and her husband Gordon retired in Boisdale.
She enjoyed doing fancywork, collecting antiques and visiting historic sites and museums during family outings. She was a great cook and baker, and loved family and friends coming to visit.
Teresa is survived by her daughter, Mary (Dave) Mackie; son, Robert, Ontario; her devoted son and caregiver, Tim, Boisdale; three grandsons, Ben, Chris and James; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Catherine ‘Beanie’ Burt, Glace Bay, and Hattie Francis, Halifax; along with several nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held today (Monday, Nov. 19) at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment to follow in Lakeside Cemetery.
