HARTMAN, Violet Elva, 88, of North East Harbour, Shelburne, Co., N.S. passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, October 29, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Lorraine, where she has been living for nearly two years. Born in Clyde River on June 21, 1924, she was a daughter of the late David M. Watkins and Margaret Gibson. At the tender age of five she was taken to live with Elmer and Marguerite Perry of Ingomar. Over the years she worked in fish plants, loved to square dance, play 45’s and whist and sing in the choir. She was a member of Riverside Rebekah Lodge #49, enjoyed darts, playing marbles, going to Saturday night bingo and was known to have a great sense of humour. She is survived by daughter, Lorraine (Thomas); grandsons, Jim (Sally), Cory; sister, Helen Bower, Sable River; half-sister, Vanora Ellis, Port Maitland; half-brothers, Calvin Watkins, Grand Manon, N.B., Leonard Watkins, Lawrencetown; great grand-children, Brandon (19), Cassidy (15), Lindze (9), Kaylee (5). Violet was predeceased by her husband, Melvin (2004); infant daughter, Freda Dianne (at birth); half-brothers, Stanley Perry, David Watkins, Reginald Watkins; sister, Myrtle Snowball; son-in-law, Neil Thomas. Under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held on Friday, November 2 from Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel in Barrington, Pastor Cindy Dunnett officiated. Donations were made to Harbour Fire Department First Responders, c/o Sherree Smith, Pleasant Plain Cemetery, c/o Fay Nickerson, or charity of your choice.
