Smith, Elmer Clifford, age 87, of Scotch Village, Hants County, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 in the Q.E.II Halifax Infirmary. Born on July 12, 1925 in Scotch Village. He was the son of the late Russell and Jean (Lake) Smith. Elmer loved to dance and often attended the local dances with Hazel. He was often seen puttering in his garden which brought him much joy. He loved keeping his home and yard in top notch shape. Elmer often took annual trips to Ontario and to the United States with his companion, Hazel Kennedy to visit family and friends. He enjoyed fishing with his brothers in his younger years. Surviving are sons, Roland (Patricia), Mississauga, Ontario; Darryl (Rebecca), Calgary, Alberta; daughter, Heather (David) Cochrane, Stanley, Hants County; grandchildren, Brandon, Christopher, Meagan Smith, Patricia, Alexander, Spencer Cochrane; step-grandchildren, Matthew, and Ben Stetz; companion, Hazel Kennedy; brother, Ralph, Scotch Village; sisters, Pauline (Cliff) Collins, Toronto; Frances Power, Windsor; Eileen (Don) Baker, Windsor; Doris (Bob) Yateman, Midland, Ontario; Linda (Frank) Walters, Sydney Mines; sister-in-law, Beatrice Smith, Lower Sackville; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, the former Vivian Edwards; brothers, Earl, Roland, Gordon, Gerald. Visitation was held 7-9 pm Tuesday, November 20, 2012 in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was held 11 am Wednesday, November 21, 2012 in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Hill View Cemetery, Scotch Village. Donations in Elmer’s memory were requested to be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association or the Multiple Sclerosis Society or charity of your choice.
