Gladys Pearl Hoegg (MacDonald)

Hoegg (MacDonald), Gladys Pearl, 86, of Truro, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on November 18 at the Colchester Regional Hospital. Born in Westville, Pictou County, she was the daughter of the late Philip Lowe MacDonald and Catherine Isabel (Fraser) MacDonald. Upon graduation from Westville High School,
Gladys joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps in 1944, serving in Saint
John and Ottawa. After the War, Gladys trained at the Aberdeen School
of Nursing in New Glasgow. In 1949 she married R.A. (Tim) Hoegg and
raised four children. While raising her family, Gladys completed her
business diploma, and then worked at Thompson and Sutherland's in New
Glasgow and Moore's Sheet Metal in Stellarton. Gladys and her family
moved to Truro in 1972, where she worked as a medical records
technician and medical secretary to the pathologist. Upon retirement,
Gladys enjoyed learning the piano, downhill skiing, golfing, shopping,
and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the
Royal Canadian Legion, Truro Branch and the Truro Golf Club. She had
a kind heart and a love for animals, especially her toy poodle, Mitzi.
Gladys is survived by her husband, Tim; her daughters Susan Hoegg of
Ottawa and Valerie Hoegg-Briand (Bruce Briand) of Truro; her
grandchildren Jennifer Hoegg (Ross Chapman), Emily Hoegg (Paul
Aucoin), Margaret Hoegg (Mathieu Henley), Sarah Lennerton (Jason
Reynolds), Adam Lennerton (Kati Smith), Philip Vincent, Louise
Vincent, and Chloe Vincent; and her sister Phyllis Gean Christison of
Albequerque, New Mexico. Gladys is also survived by her five
great-grandchilden, Christopher, Cordelia, Josephine, Simon, and
Eleanor. She was predeceased by her parents, her sons David and
Robert, and her sister Katherine Frasier. Visitation will be held on
Wednesday, November 21 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Mattatall-Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. The funeral service will be held on Thursday,
November 22 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in
Truro, with The Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. The committal will take place on Saturday, November 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church Cemetery in Stellarton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson Society Canada, the
