NEW GLASGOW – Evelyn Irene MacKay, 86, of New Glasgow, NS, peacefully passed away surrounded by family in her home on November 19, 2012.
Born in Lower Barney’s River, Evelyn was a daughter of the late Catherine (Logan) and James D. Smith.
She was predeceased by her husband Howard W. MacKay, sister Dorothy Bremner, and brother George Smith.
She is survived by her children: Catherine MacKay, New Glasgow; Marion MacKay and Dorothy MacKay, Calgary; James MacKay, Ottawa; Susan MacKay, Halifax; Alan MacKay, Edson, AB; grandsons: Peter Dimov, Logan Knoll, Devin MacInnis, all of Calgary; David MacAdam, Halifax; granddaughter Casey Knoll, Calgary.
Evelyn volunteered with the New Glasgow Music Festival, Ladies Aid - St. Andrews Presbyterian Church; Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary, ProArt Concert Series, Board of Managers First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Stellarton Bridge Club and also enjoyed Wednesday afternoon bridge with the ladies. Evelyn had a gift for hospitality and enjoyed welcoming guests into her home during the 30 years she operated MacKay’s Bed and Breakfast.
The family will receive visitors at Evelyn’s home, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 11a.m. from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Richard Sand officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall.
The family requests no flowers. Donations may be made to The Ladies’ Aid - St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
