Murray Nixon

NIXON, MURRAY D. (BSC, MD, FCFP, CHE, CCFP) - 77, of Halifax - It is with great sadness that Murray’s family announces his death on November 24, 2012. Murray was born in Saint John, New Brunswick to the late Murray Emery and Margaret (Dunlap) Nixon. He was a graduate of Mount Allison University and McGill Medical School. He was an Associate Professor of the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University. At the time of his retirement in 2011, he worked in the Department of Family Medicine and Department of Medicine in Geriatrics. Murray was a well known Physician nationally and internationally for his work in Home Care. He was Past Chair of the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation and the Canadian Home Care Association. Murray is survived by his wife of 53 years Dorothy, four children, John (Cynthia) of Moncton, N.B., Susan Nixon of Halifax, Peter (Kim) of Dartmouth and Sandra Harper (Terry) of Windsor Junction, five grandchildren, Austin, Samantha and Michael Nixon, Jeremy Harper and Christian Ouellette. May his spirit live on in his beloved grandchildren.
As Murray wished, there will be no service or visitation, however a reception will be held at a later date for family and friends. Murray will be remembered for his incredible spirit and dignity. The family wishes to thank Dr. Graham Bethune, Dr. David Bell, Dr. Rob Rutledge, Dr. Lori Wood, her nurse Pat Chatterton and Jessica Meredith of the VON for their care and compassion.
