Mary Theresa Jessome

Born In: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada
Born: July 24th, 1929

Passed on: November 24th, 2012

It was with many loving arms and many heavy hearts, we allowed our beautiful mother, Mary Theresa MacKinnon Jessome to go home to heaven on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, Theresa was the daughter of Margaret and James MacKinnon, born July 24, 1929.
Ma was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Formerly a resident of Bras d’Or Road, Florence. Most recently, she resided at the Northside Community Guest Home.
After raising her 15 children, Ma went to work helping to look after other people’s children for 11 years at TL Sullivan Junior High. She was a member of St. Stephen’s parish, Florence. She was a former member of CWL and St. Anne’s Society.
There wasn’t a Sunday that went by that our family didn’t gather around her kitchen table for a game of cards and a feed of Nanny’s spaghetti and meatballs. It didn’t matter how many showed up, that pot was bottomless.
She is survived by her children, Frances (Gordie) Brown, Marie Day, Steve, Patrick (Gerry), Debbie (Bill) Monaghan, Derrick (Heather), Donald (Sheila), Jimmy (Jeannie), Wanda (Blair) Gracie, Wendy,(Hoss), Vaughn, Norma (Conrad) Shaw, Blair (Donna), Terry( Sandy) MacNeil, Denise (Dwayne) and 42 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Theresa was predeceased by her sister, Josephine and brothers, Roddie and Jim and her great-grandchild, Allie Grace.
Visitation for the late Mary Theresa Jessome will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephens Cemetery, Florence.
Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home Foundation.
Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
