HARRY (JOE) GOULD

Mr. Harry Ernest Gould (Joe), age 87, of Moose Jaw passed away in his home peacefully on Friday November 23, 2012. Joe was born, raised, and worked in Moose Jaw all his life. Predeceased by his parents Harry and Bertha Gould and grandson Barry Ravneck (Gould), Joe is lovingly remembered by his wife Lousia, his children Allen, Barry (Micki), Caren (Bruce), David (Lorie), Elaine (Russ) and Fawna, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joe served in WWII as an upper-deck gunner in the Royal Canadian Navy. After the war ended and he returned to Moose Jaw, he worked for Saskatchewan National Light & Power for several years before starting his career as the Physical Director of the Moose Jaw YMYWCA. Joe loved his involvement with the youth of the community and he loved each and every one of the kids at the Y. In addition to the programs he directed at the Y, Joe coached the football team at Peacock High, was a player/ trainer for the Moose Jaw Pla-Mors, and acted as trainer of the Moose Jaw Generals senior hockey club (winners of the 1984-85 Hardy Cup). He also acted as a gymnastics judge at the Pan-American Games, and was a senior belt holder with the Moose Jaw YMYWCA judo club. Joe’s contribution to sports in the Moose Jaw/Regina region was recognized in 1966 when he was awarded Sportsman of the Year. Joe Gould impacted the lives of numerous people, young and old. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. In keeping with Joe’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Moose Jaw YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. In living memory of Joe, a memorial planting will be made by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
