Eileen Landry, née Cusack, of Sydney, passed away peacefully at the An Cala palliative care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Nov. 26, 2012, two days shy of her 93rd birthday.
Born in Sydney, she was the eldest daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Cusack of Ashby.
A lifelong resident of Sydney, she trained as a certified dispensing clerk at the Dalhousie School of Pharmacy and worked at various pharmacies in Cape Breton County for many years. With her late husband, she owned and operated Paul’s Hotel in Sydney for over 50 years.
Fiercely independent to the end, she was a woman of deep faith and strong conviction. She was a member of Sacred Heart parish, a longtime member of the CWL and an associate of the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame.
Predeceased by her husband, Doug in 1992, Eileen is survived by three sons, Paul (Brenda Wall), D.A. (Anne-Frances D’Intino) and Colin (Barbara Kelly), all of Sydney; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Bill, Halifax; as well as sisters, Louise Coffin and Patsy Keough, Sydney, Cherry Bildstein, Halifax, Carmel Bridges and Pauline MacDonald, Ontario.
She was predeceased by brothers, Jack, George, Gerald and Frank.
Visitation will take place at T.W. Curry Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Anthony O’Connor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or a charity of your choice.
