Passed away Sunday, November 25th, 2012 at Health Sciences North
Beloved husband of Helen Freeman (nee Bartus) predeceased 1993. Dear son of Charles and Annie (nee Annenburg) Freeman both predeceased. Dear brother of Alvin, Gordon, Irene, Myrtle, Muriel, Harold, Hilda, Forman, Frank and Robie all predeceased. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends in Canada and New York.
Leigh was born August 30th, 1918 in Greenfield, Queens County, Nova Scotia. He was a veteran of the Merchant Navy 1939-1947, and he served his country as a volunteer on the ships during the Second World War. He lived in New York with his wife Helen and moved to Sudbury, Ontario after he retired. Leigh will be remembered as a gentleman with a great love of music. He was on the MCTV Christmas telethon for years and won first place in the Seniors’ Star Competition in May 2012, playing his accordion.
Special thanks to the support workers, nurses and the Doctor on the 6th Floor South Tower at Health Sciences North. We also wish to thank Comfort Keepers for their care, comfort and compassion in the last 2 years.
Funeral Visitation was held in the Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St., Sudbury on Thursday, November 29th, 2012 from 6:30pm to 8pm. A memorial service was held under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 564 Lockerby at 7pm Thursday. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. A private family graveside committal to be held in Pinecrest Cemetery, Nova Scotia, at a later date. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
