Edgar L.P. Vervaet

Born In: Gent, Belgium

Passed on: December 1st, 2012

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather, and friend, Edgar L.P. Vervaet, on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Ed was a former resident of Gent, Belgium, and a longtime resident of Queen Street, North Sydney.
Born in Wetteren, Belgium, Ed was the son of the late Maurits and Maria (De Winter) Vervaet.
He apprenticed as a tailor at an early age and served for a short period during Second World War in the Belgian Army. In Germany following the Second World War, he met, and later married Pamela (Cornish), his wife of 45 years.
Ed and Pam immigrated to Canada in 1953, settling in North Sydney. Ed was dedicated to his work, operating a tailor shop on Charlotte Street in Sydney, six days a week. He continued to work as a tailor well into his 80s. In his spare time, Ed enjoyed reading and had a passion for fitness. He ran, walked or cycled every day of his adult life. In later years, he enjoyed spending winters with his family and friends in Belgium and the Canary Islands.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Pam, his sister, Cesarine, Gent, Belgium, brothers-in-law, Marcel Vanden Meersschaut, Gent, Belgium, and Moses Naddaf, North Sydney.
Ed is survived by his sons, Wayne (Marilyn), Westmount, Brian, Halifax, Kim (Barb), Ajax, Ont., his daughter, Sharon (Donald), Windsor Junction, N.S., and by three granddaughters Jaime, Solveig and Paige.
He is also survived by his sister in law Merle Naddaf, nephews Joseph and Mike Naddaf, special nieces Beverley and Janet, all of the Northside area.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home and Dr. John Kirkpatrick for their care and compassion shown to their father.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Luker officiating. A private family burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society.
