PLEWIS: Leon Elmor Plewis, age 86 years, of Swift Current, SK, passed away November 26, 2012 at Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. The memorial service was held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 30, 2012 from First United Church, with Reverend Sharon Ferguson-Hood and Reverend Jonathon Kwan officiating. A eulogy was presented by the son-in-law, Mike Klippenstein. The organist was Arlie Neufeld and Sharon Veer rendered a solo selection. The ushers were Shriners - Biss Wiskar and Jack Hagemeister. The Honor Guard was formed by members of the Masonic Lodge #26 A.M. & F.M., members of the Shrine Club and Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #56. The Legion Last Rites were observed, the Retiring of the Fez was facilitated by Shrine Past Potentate - Ron Heeg and the Urn Bearer was Shriner - Brian Whiteside. An interment service will take place at the family grave site in Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date. Leon is survived by his wife Marnie, Swift Current, SK; a daughter Joanne Klippenstein (Mike), Regina, SK; two sons: Jim Plewis (Pam nee: Nybo), Swift Current, SK and Greg Plewis (Dessirrie nee: Tofin), Edmonton, AB; five grandchildren: Janet, Grant and Neil Klippenstein, Ryan (Jenn), Mark (Erynn) and Jillian Plewis; great grandchildren: Campbell, Sayer, Toby, Mila, Annika Plewis; three sisters: Evelyn, Marg, and Myrna. He was predeceased by his parents: Lawrence "Barney" and Ellen Plewis; his father and father and mother-in-law: Florence and James Hughes; a brother Morris; brother-in-law Lloyd Hughes and sister-in-law Louise Hughes. Leon was born in Swift Current, SK on February 16, 1926 and was raised in Pennent, SK. He attended school in Pennant and Swift Current, SK. Leon served in the Canadian Army during the Second Wold War. On June 10, 1947 he was united in marriage to Margaret "Marnie" Hughes. Leon was a life time fixture at Standard Motors. He worked with his father "Barney" and then co-owned Standard Motors with his brother Morris. The Company was sold to Leon's son Jim in 1984, but he still came to drink tea and visit and of course fill the coffee pot and coke machine, until the end. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #26, the Shrine Club, the Legion Branch #56, a former member of the Kiwanis Club, Chairman of the Prairie Pioneer Lodge Board, Past Board Member of the Swift Current Chamber of Commerce and was a Past Chariman of the United Way Program. He had a special interest in what former staff members were doing. He picked up needle point in the winter, until surgery and arthritis made it to difficult. He also enjoyed stained glass work and visiting with family and friends.
