The death occurred peacefully, and surrounded by her loving family, at the Colville Manor in Souris on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, of Clarisse Gallant, beloved wife of the late Jacques Gallant of Souris, in her 100th year.
Clarisse was born on November 10, 1913 on the family farm in Oyster Bed Bridge to her late parents, Domitien and Eugenie (Martin) Gallant. Clarisse is survived by her 14 children: Romeo (Eydie), Souris; Clem (Doreen), Summerside; Yvette (George, deceased) Sheehan, Souris West; Anne Marie (Dean) Johnson, Holcombe, Wisc.; Claire (Bill, deceased) Green, Souris; Ron (Donna), Mermaid; Mark (Linda), Hamilton, Ontario; Richard (Geri), Dartmouth; Anita (Wilfred) St. Denis, Hamilton, Ont.; Carmella (Patrick) Cheverie, Souris; Adrienne (Mike) Kervin, Comox, B.C.; Denise (Jerry) Jakubiak, Kensington; Elaine (Lew) Black, Cornwall; and Allie (Doreen), Souris. She is also survived by 58 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Survived by her sister-in-law, Mary (the late Jerry) Gallant, Georgetown.
Predeceased by brothers, Edward (Louise), Paul (the late Regina, the late Rita, the late Mary), Alban (Albertine); sisters, Alvina (Arthur) Gallant, Isabelle (the late Clovis and the late Ernest) Gallant, Margaret (the late Jean-Francois Aucoin, the late Jimmy McVane), Marie Anne, Sr. Louise Gallant CND; three sisters in infancy; sister-in-law, Catherine (James) Atkins; granddaughters, Kristy Gallant and Cherie (the late Brendon) MacCormack.
Resting at the Dingwell Funeral Home in Souris for visiting hours on Friday, December 7, 2012, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Saturday morning, December 8, 2012, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Funeral to be held on Saturday to St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Souris for funeral mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment in the church cemetery.
