Lawrence Cormier

Lawrence (Boobie) Thomas Cormier age 83 of Amherst, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Nathan and Mary (LeBlanc) Cormier.
At the age of 17, Boobie started working at Christie Trunk and Baggage in Amherst where he was employed for 25 years. He also worked for Eastern Homes in Amherst as superintendent for 13 years.
1983, Lawrence started his own general contracting business, which he operated until his retirement in 2007.
Boobie was a Sergeant in the North Nova Scotia Highlanders Reserves for 22 years and he received the Canadian Forces Decoration and the Centennial Medal.
He was a member of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Amherst.
Boobie is survived by his loving wife of 61 years the former, Palm Ward; four sons, Lawrence Jr. “Larry” (JoAnn), Gary (Pam) and Paul all of Amherst, and Jeffrey “JJ” (Allison) of Calgary, AB; daughter, Lisa (Greg) Letcher of Truro, NS; nine grandchildren, Tracy, Taylor, Kelly, Nathaniel, Michael, Marcus, Brianna, Jonah and Morgan; Boobie is also survived by brother, Gerry (Martha) of Amherst; sister, Eleanor (Roger) Arseneau of Truro, NS; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Besides his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by sisters, Audrey Farrow, Jean Estabrooks and Deanna MacLeod; brothers, Ronnie, Raymond, Roy, Dougie, Leon and Joseph.
A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8:00 p.m. all in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906).
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 10, at 10:00 a.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating; reception to follow in the parish hall.
Memorial contributions in Boobie’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetic Association or St. Vincent de Paul.
