It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother, grandmother, sister and special friend, Ellen May Hood, 81, on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home. Mom passed away with Miriam and Paddy at her side.
Born in North Sydney, Ellen was the daughter of the late Warren and Muriel (May) Dicks.
In her earlier years she worked at the British Canadian Co-Op in Sydney Mines and North Sydney. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. Mom was a devoted caregiver. Her children and grandson were truly the joys of her life. She maintained a simple demeanor that won the hearts of many, especially with her sense of humour. Mom loved to laugh. She will be sadly missed by everyone she touched.
A heartfelt thank you to Diane MacKinnon, Mom’s special friend throughout the years and Paddy Downey who mom loved like a son.
Mom is survived by her daughter Miriam (Paddy), North Sydney and son Terry (Ann), Dartmouth, her pride and joy, grandson Jamie Jabalee (Kaela), Bedford, brothers Bronson (Evelyn), Bridgewater and Ches (Josephine), Athabasca, Alta. as well as nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Ellen was predeceased by her husband Roderick Hood in 2004 and a sister in infancy.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service to celebrate Ellen’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home or a charity of choice.
