Barkhouse, Dorothy Jane, formerly Dorothy Jane Schofield, 89, of Windsor, Hants Co., formerly of Baxter’s Harbour, Kings Co., passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 in the Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born on March 8, 1923, in Baxter’s Harbour, she was a daughter of the late George and Alice McCulley. Dorothy enjoyed family gatherings, entertaining and gardening. Dorothy was a pastor’s wife for fifty-two years and for ten years opened her home for foster children. Surviving are daughters, Sylvia (David) Keating, Ottawa; Alice (William) Parker, Middle Sackville; son, Bryan (Roberta) Schofield, Middle LaHave; grandchildren, Richard (Jennifer) and Michael (Annique) Keating; Trevor and Shaun Blair; Andrew (Jennifer) and Michelle Porter; Jordon, Robert, Kayla and Simon Schofield; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Carl (Heather) McCulley, Baxter’s Harbour; sisters, Elizabeth (Lochren) Rafuse, Sheffield Mills; Gertrude Compeau, Brockville, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her children, Kathleen Mae Schofield, Myrna Schofield, Alberta Jane Blair; Allen Victor Schofield; her first husband, Victor Allen Schofield; second husband, Charles Barkhouse; brothers, Nathan, Wiley, Wesley, Harold, Nelson and Joseph; sisters, Lola, Laura, and Sadie. Visitation was held 2-5 pm Saturday, December 15, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was held 1 pm Sunday, December 16, 2012 in the Windsor United Baptist Church, 411 King Street, Windsor, the Rev. Jeff White officiated. Interment was in Baxter’s Harbour Cemetery. Donations in memory were requested to be made to the Parkinson’s Society, Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
