Audrey Marie Forrest of Lower South River, Antigonish County, 76, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, with her loving husband Russell holding her hand.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late James and Ruth (King) MacNeil.
She was well known in the community and worked for St. FX for 18 years before having to retire due to health reasons. She was loved by the students (many of whom called her Mama), faculty and her co-workers. In 1998 she was chosen to receive her honorary X ring which she very proudly wore everyday and got mentioned in a MacLeans Magazine article. Audrey also loved sports especially hockey. She was very disappointed in missing her hockey this year.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years Russell; her brother, Keith (Bernie) of Springfield; her sister, Betty (Gil) of Toronto; and many nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her brother, Jimmy of Toronto, and a very special niece, Glenda Ann of Calgary.
Audrey’s wishes were to be cremated with no visitation. A funeral service will be in St. Andrew’s Church, St. Andrews on Thursday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Charles Cameron officiating, and a second service held in North Sydney at St. Joseph’s Church on Saturday, Dec. 29, 11 a.m. with Fr. Patrick O’Neill officiating.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Lung Association, the Antigonish VON or the Antigonish & Area Homecare Service.
