SIMMONS, Russel “Bud” age 87 years of Shaunavon, SK and formerly of Scotsguard, SK died on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre. He was born at Scotsguard on July 29, 1925 the first child born to Merrill and Lewella Simmons. He attended school at Esmond and Scotsguard. Bud farmed with his dad until 1946 when he married Rosella “Dolly” Sonsteby. They were married at Scotsguard on October 18, 1946 and then moved to Moose Jaw where Bud worked at Robin Hood Mills for approximately nine years. They moved to Shaunavon for a couple of years before moving back to farm with Bud’s dad in 1957. In 1962 they moved to the Martin Tengesdal farm and worked there for six years. In 1968 they bought Bud’s father’s farm which at one time had belonged to Dolly’s father and where she had grown up. They had three children, George, Wayne and Patty. Bud and Dolly moved to Shaunavon in about 2004. Bud served on the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Committee in Scotsguard and was a member of the Shaunavon Elks Lodge. He was an avid curler and enjoyed sports. He loved his wife Dolly, his children and grandchildren. Farming and his cattle also held a special place in his life. He enjoyed reading, coffee with his friends and playing cribbage. He was predeceased by his wife Dolly on October 6, 2007, daughter Patty Moritz in 2012, grandson Vince Moritz in 2012, a great granddaughter Keyleigh Moritz, father Merrill, mother Lewella, step-mother Hattie, sister Helen Sonsteby, brothers-in-law Bob Bolianatz, Bud Traun, Robert Sonsteby and Howard Hillock and sisters-in-law Bernice Simmons, Almeda Hillock and Margaret. Bud is survived by his sons George (Donna) and Wayne (Bev) both of Shaunavon, son-in-law Bill Moritz of Fort McMurray, AB, seven grandchildren Erin, Grant, Garrett Sean, Craig, Kelly and Travis, nine great grandchildren, two brothers Roy (Della) of Shaunavon and Don of Creston, BC, three sisters Irene Traun of Hope, BC, Dallas Bolianatz of Shaunavon and Ruby Lind (Lawrence) of Admiral, SK as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held from Salem Lutheran Church in Shaunavon on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Joy Frenette officiating. George Simmons presented the eulogy and ushers were Allen Lind and Carl Lind. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery at Shaunavon. Pallbearers were: Erin Harrison, Grant Simmons, Garrett Simmons, Sean Simmons, Craig Moritz, Kelly Moritz, and Travis Moritz.
