We the family of James R. Rahey regret to announce his peaceful passing at the Northside General Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012.
Born in Zahle, Lebanon, the son of the late Richard and Deebie Rahey.
He was a well-known businessman, the owner and operator of J.R. Raheys Furniture and Jewellery Stores. He served on many boards, the Seaview Curling Club, Northside Community Forum and the Northside industrial Park. He was an honorary member of the Father William Kiely Council, Knights of Columbus, North Sydney, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8, Sydney Mines.
James is survived by his wife Jamal (Kassouf) Rahey of 50 years; his sons, Michael (Jeannie), Paul (Bonnie), Cavel (Louise); his daughters, Tracie (Junior) Nippard of Fort McMurray, Alta., and Leila Rahey of Toronto; also brother-in-law, Riad Kassouf and sister-in-law, Marie, North Sydney; his 10 grandchildren and the loves of his life, Leo, Savannah, Alyssa, Jameelah, Amey, Adam, Drew, Taryn, Malik and Megan. Also survived by his brother, Carl Rahey and sisters-in-law, Josephine Kassouf, Lodie (Fouad) Chehab; brother-in-law, Adel (Margaret) Kassouf and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his brothers, Nicholas, Arthur and Raymond Rahey and sisters, Isabel (Mike) Kattas, Marie (Michael) Kassouf and Eva Shwery, brother-in-law, Joseph Kassouf.
Visitation for James R. Rahey will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Harvest House and the food bank.
