He was known as the Demolition Man, or the man who demolished numerous buildings within the city including the old City Hall. John or “Jack” as he was called worked tirelessly in his business and no job was too small or too big. At 85, he continued to work his until illness. His passion was telling stories, listening to Irish and Newfoundland music, time spent with his family in his country place (HELJAC Ponderosa) in Torbay and for collecting the unusual antiques and collectibles. This sparked his interest in his used collectable business and weekly garage sales. John was also one of the oldest vendors in the Royal St. John’s Regatta having participated for over 60 years. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. Remembering all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls. I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.Until the day comes we’re together again.”
