Kathleen “Kay” Mae Kent (nee Burns)
Kathleen “Kay” Mae Kent (nee Burns), age 94, of Enfield, formerly of Amherst passed away peacefully at the Magnolia Residence at Enfield on Sunday, December 30th, 2012, showing her sense of humour and goodwill to the end.
Born in Prince Edward Island, she came to “Busy Amherst” with her family when she was eight years old and attended St. Charles School. She was the youngest daughter of the late Walter and Catherine Burns. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being predeceased by four brothers, Harry, Jack, Bill and Robert “Checker” Burns, and by two sisters, Irene Lutes and Hilda Fowler.
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Carl Kent and infant daughter Irene. She is survived by her three sons Dan (Emily) of Winnipeg, Chris of Montreal and Stephen (Shelley) of Grand Lake, N.S., grandchildren, Doug Anderson, Graham, Katie , Melissa, Daisey, Hikaru, and Jackson Kent; and four great grandchildren. She was a great mother and her life was all about family.
In her early years Kathleen loved to dance and skate. She worked at the Amherst Pants Factory and the Canada Car during the war. She was a lifelong member of St. Charles/Nativity/Holy Family Parish. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League.
Kathleen’s family takes this opportunity to thank Dr. Stewart Montgomerie of Elmsdale and the wonderful staff of Magnolia Continuing Care for their assistance and many kindnesses.
Funeral arrangements for Kathleen have been entrusted to the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (667-8777). Funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish Church on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 10 am. Reception will follow at Holy Family Parish hall. Burial in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery in the spring.
