Mary Jane Dennis passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born Dec. 23, 1935 in Barra Head, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Lena (Francis) Battiste.
Mary Jane was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. Some of Mary Jane's hobbies were playing bingo, double up, VLTs, playing cards and quilt making. She also drove the hospital taxi for over 40 years.
She is survived by her children, Lena Joe (stepdaughter); Francis, Mabel, Paula, Joyce Bernard, Clayton (Catherine), Wendy Francis, Lyndon, Peggy, Glenda, Perry, Connie, Andrea, Vicki, Tabitha, Melanie, Christopher, Robin, Dale and Dawn. She is also survived by 75 grandchildren; 106 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren; by brother, Frederick Battiste and sister, Annie Brooks, Shubie, along with her many godchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Dennis; daughter, Denise; son, Perry; stepson, Stephen; sisters, Mary May, Mabel, Theresa, Helen Francis, Mary Agnes Gloade and brothers, William Googoo and Steven Battiste and also by stepmother, Mary Googoo Battiste.
Visitation for Mary Jane Dennis will take place on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 after 7 p.m. at the Gabriel Center, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, Eskasoni.
