LIKELY, DAVID GALE - (1942 - 2012) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Gale Likely of Burtts Corner, NB, December 31st, 2012. He was born in Saint John, NB on February 4th, 1942 to Leslie Herbert and Ruth Gale Likely. In 1960, David graduated from Saint John High School. He then received Bachelor and Masters degrees from the University of New Brunswick and a PhD from Dalhousie University. In 1971, he became a bio-psychology professor at the University of New Brunswick, where he taught and engaged in research until his retirement in 1999. David's passion was tending to his hobby farm. Over the years, he tended orchards and large gardens, raised sheep, kept horses and various other animals, and was a dedicated steward to his land. He taught his children to love the forest and the fields, and to appreciate the abundance and raw beauty of nature. Upon retirement he became an avid sail boat builder. David was known for his fierce independence, his intellect and wit. He was an honourable and principled man, and he will be dearly missed. David is pre-deceased by his wife Lorna Jean MacKenzie of Dorn Ridge, NB, and is survived by their children Angus Richard Likely of Edmonton, AB, Sibyl Likely of Toronto, ON, Anthony Prebble of Brantford, ON, Robin Prebble of Lloydminster, AB, and Amy Copeland of St. John's, NL. He will also be sadly missed by his sister Jane Likely of Pembroke, ON and his five grandchildren; Mackenzie and Gillian Prebble; Liam and Evan Copeland and Jane Tabea Likely.
A memorial service will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home in Fredericton, NB, on Sunday January 6, 2013 at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or the medical research charity of your choice.
