James Ronald (Jim) Hepworth

James Ronald Hepworth (Jim) of Millbrook, NS, passed away on Jan 2nd, 2013 at home after a determined battle with cancer. He was born July 9th 1945 in Toronto, Ontario to the late George and Viola (Allard) Hepworth . He was predeceased by brothers; George and John, and is survived by siblings Evelyn, William, Wayne and Phillip. Jim was the former spouse of the late Sandra Carol Julien. Jim joined the Royal Canadian Navy after graduating from High School, and was posted in the Halifax port from 1963-1966. After his service in the Navy, Jim was employed by Canada Post while residing with his wife and four children in Toronto. Jim then moved his wife and children to Millbrook, Nova Scotia in 1977. Jim was employed as a housing inspector for CMHC in the early 1980’s and in the late 1980’s resumed his carrier as a letter carrier with Canada Post. Jim became an entrepreneur in the 1990’s operating a small store and managing rental properties. Jim was a member of the Commissionaires Nova Scotia for many years. He also operated a taxi service and was a medical driver for Millbrook community members. Jim was a member in the Stewiacke Masonic Lodge # 98 AF&AM and had volunteered in various organizations, including the Lions Club, Shriners, CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) and a member of the Nova Scotia Highlanders Military Rifle Association. He had been an avid outdoorsman and competitive rifle shooter. His interest in target shooting compelled him to volunteer in the mid 1980’s at the Truro Armouries, mentoring youth for target shooting and safe firearms usage. Jim was known locally for his sense of humour, his integrity, loyalty to his friends and family and his old school attitude in dealing with people. He was very protective of his children. Jim is survived by his four children: Jim Hepworth Jr, Michelle Hepworth, Louise Hepworth (Paul Macaloney) all of Truro, and Mo and (Shauna Blackadar) Hepworth of Moncton, NB. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Jim jr., Vicky, Joey, Austin, Jessica, Julien, Nicholas, Alex, and Shamus. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Visitation will be Saturday 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm with a Masonic Memorial Service at 5:45 pm and also visitation on Sunday from 2-4 pm, all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro.
