Allan Keeping

Born In: English Harbour West

Passed on: January 4th, 2012

With tears in our eyes, we say goodbye to our father, brother and companion, Allan Keeping who passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in English Harbour West, N.L., he was the son of the late Allan and Eliza (Fiander) Keeping.
Allan worked all his life at Sea and enjoyed the boats. When he retired in 2010, he would spend most of his time working in his barn and getting his wood ready for winter.
He would let the cats in the barn with him, where he always had food for them and would talk to them as if they were human. Allan and L.B. would make their daily trip to the mailbox and the people in the area would call him “Allan’s watchdog.”
Allan always had lots to say, like, which fork in the road to take. Sometimes he would hold his hands up in disgust, and sometimes he would just smile, it was then we knew we were doing the right thing. We are going to miss you Allan, your spirit will always be with us.
He has now gone home to be with his daughter, little Vera, his son, Troy and all his family in heaven. Enjoy your journey, Allan, until we see you again.
Allan is survived by his companion, Anna Martin; special son, Ryan; sons, Crawford, Ball’s Creek, Cyril Robert (Cheryl) of Dartmouth; sisters, Ettie (Peter) Kendall, Burgeo, N.L., Georgina Drake, English Harbour West, N.L.; brothers, Clyde (Kathleen), Grand Bank, N.L., Norman (Eileen), Sydney Mines, Cyril (Margie) and Brian (Mildred), both of North Sydney.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Vera, son Troy, sister, Vivian Ruth, brothers, Wilfred Donald and William.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Salvation Army Sydney Community Church, 55 Inglis St., Sydney, with Ret. CSM Cyril Keeping officiating and assisted by Major Kent Hepditch.
No flowers by request. Donations can be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre in Allan’s memory.
