Hugh Leslie Smith, 84, of Englishtown.
Born in Sydney, N.S., he was the son of the late Stanfield L. and Lillian (Armstrong) Smith.
Following a long illness, he passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
He enjoyed many years service with Martime Tel&Tel, from which he early retired due to ill health. During his active life, he was an avid sportsman, excelling at competition skeet and trap shooting, hunting and possibly even more fishing salmon in North River and the Margarees.
Les was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Gordon and wives, Vivian (MacDonald), Christine (MacAulay) and Dolly (Buchanan).
He is survived by his only sister, Marilyn (Smith) Gledhill of Halifax.
Cremation has taken place. A wake at 12 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. both at Greenwood United Church on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, with Rev. Brian MacLeod officiating. Burial at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of MacAskill’s Funeral Home, Baddeck.
