Shirley Elizabeth Strum
Strum, Shirley Elizabeth (Casey), 71, of Strathcona (East River Hubert) and formerly of Truro, passed away on December 30th, 2012 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst after a long battle with cancer. Born in Truro she was the only daughter of the late Earl and Freda (Jacobs) Casey-Mack. Shirley began her career in office work in Truro with Halliday Craftsman and Dawbarn Canada Limited – the rope factory where she met John. They moved to New Brunswick where she worked for several companies as a key punch operator. years as their receptionist. Shirley and John made many friends in Moncton, Saint John, Truro, Hilden and in the Miramichi. She belonged to the St. John’s Anglican Church and loved her girls in the Princess Mary Guild of the Anglican Church Women of Canada. Shirley was very interested in photography and was a member of the Image Makers Photography Club. She also had a great fondness for Lorraine and Louise (Truro) and Hazel (USA), John’s birth sisters. She is survived by her husband, John; son, Troy (Colleen), Dartmouth; granddaughter Jessie. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 9th at 2 p.m. in St. John’s Anglican Church, 25 Church St. Truro with Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Interment in the spring in Terrace Hill Cemetery, Truro. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
