Travis, Joan Anne(Richard), 76 of Campbell’s Lane, New Glasgow passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on January 8, 2013 at home.
Born November 6, 1936 in New Glasgow she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary(Gerrior) Richard. Since suffering a stroke in 1992, her favourite diversions included her faith, Saturday Night Bingo, Tuesday Night Card Parties, the odd trip to the casino and playing cards at home with family and friends, for money of course. Joan loved to laugh. Much of her adult life was spent in Oromocto, NB where she was well known to friends from her many years of employment at the rink canteen and later the Canex at CFB Gagetown. Following their retirement, they first moved to Kemptville, NS then settled in their childhood home in New Glasgow, NS. Married to the late John Ellis Travis, she was the loving mother of three sons - Scott (Susan) Lantz, NS; Darrell (Sonja) Hampton, NB and Brent (Kathy) Ottawa, ON. Her life centred around the love of her 5 grandchildren - Jakob; Daniel; Kaleigh; Nathaniel and Isaak. Joan is survived by brothers - John (Sally) Londonderry, NS; Leonard (Samantha) Vancouver, BC; Harry (Margaret) Ottawa, ON; her sister Alda (William) Florida; sister in law Eleanor Hunter, ON and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Ralph and sisters Ina and Isabelle.
Her remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home for visiting after 7pm Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am Saturday from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton. Cremation to follow. Burial of ashes at a later date.
Memorial donations in memory of Joan may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
