THACHUK: On Wednesday, December 12, 2012, Ruth, at age 91 and with family at her side, passed away peacefully into God's loving hands. Her strong faith was an inspiration to all her friends and family. Ruth was born October 12, 1921 in Bethune, SK to William and Estella McBain. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband John, her brother Alfred McBain of Calgary, her half-sister Lorna Douglas of Moose Jaw. She will be remembered with love by her two daughters; Leita (John) Giesbrecht and Bonny Tomlinson, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, along with many other friends and relatives. Ruth spoke fondly of her childhood days and times with her family. She mentioned on occasion how she and her siblings rode the family horse back and forth to school and countless times with her beloved dog, Teddy. Ruth took nurse's training at the Moose Jaw Providence Hospital, eventually finding work in Swift Current where she met and married John Thachuk in 1946. She found work at the Swift Current Union Hospital where she worked for many years and later at the Palliser Centre. The marriage was blessed with 2 daughters, Leita and Bonny. Taking early retirement due to poor health, enabled her to spend time with her daughters and grandchildren. Eventually moving out West to Alberta in 1987, she settled in Leduc to be close to family. Ruth had a strong relationship with God, attended church regularly and enjoyed time with her church family. She enjoyed playing and listening to music and played duets regularly with her grandchildren. The funeral was held December 22 at 2pm at The Leduc Legion Hall. The interment is at the Leduc Cemetery. Ruth will be missed by many.
