Layton  Patterson

It is with deep sadness that we must announce the peaceful passing of Layton Patterson, age 90, of Jolicure. Layton passed away quietly at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 3, 2013.
Born in Jolicure, NB, he was a son of the late Earl and Annie (Turner) Patterson.
A veteran of WWII, he served in Carleton York Regiment in Italy and was wounded at Ortona Jan 3, 1944. Layton was a member of the Sackville Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 60 years. and was an adherent of St. Clements' Roman Catholic Church, Port Elgin. He drove truck for Baughan's Transfer for 38 years. He was an avid gardener, and had a love of all children and animals.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Bernadette (Legere) Jolicure; 2 daughters, Valerie (Ross) Cole, Point de Bute and Catherine (Derrick) Crandell, Baie Verte; special daughter Vicki Trites, Baie Verte; 2 brothers; Bill (Katherine), Point de Bute, Garnet, Coburg; sister; Erna Balser, Sackville; sister-in-laws Sylvia Harris, Sackville, Lorna Patterson, Fredericton; 7 grandchildren; Kimberley, Lisa, Wanda, Patricia, Michael, Angela and Matthew, 6 great grandchildren, Cole and Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Conrad, Joey Lynn and Ben; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Victor, Donald, and James; sister-in-law Doris, Leona; brother-in-law, Walter Balser and Norval Cadman.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home. Visitation took place at Jones in Port Elgin, 3 West Main St. (506-538-2241) on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. Father Allison Carroll officiated. Burial will take place in the St. Clement's Parish Cemetery in the spring.
The Sackville Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion held a remembrance service at the start of Monday night's visiting hours at 7 p.m. All were invited to attend.
Those wishing to make a donation in Layton's memory may do so to the Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
