Dora Irene Pearl Smith
SMITH, Dora Irene Pearl – 89, Truro. We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother, Dora Smith, on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, with her family by her side. Mom’s incredible life began February 24, 1923, when she was born on the farm in Gore, to her loving parents, Arthur and Della (Wile) Moore. As a young woman, during the war, she worked at “Y” Depot in Halifax. Mom’s passion of teaching led her to graduate from Nova Scotia Teacher’s College in 1961 and fulfill a career of teaching until 1985 when she retired from Enfield Elementary School. Mom loved life and everything it had to offer. Her devotion to her family and friends was one of her most admirable qualities. We will miss the wit and smiles she gave us each day. Thank you to Dr. Stephen Ellis and the VON angels for making it possible for Mom to remain at home with us through her illness and to the Palliative Care Unit for making Mom’s last journey peaceful. Dora is survived by her sons, Wayne, at home; Ricki (Bev), Saskatoon; Tim, at home; daughter, Lisa, at home; extended family, Sherry (Pierre); sister, Bessie (Stewart) Barr; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Francis Smith; sisters, Nellie, Lena; brothers, Ervin, Percy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where all are welcome to come and share with Dora’s family from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013, at a time of visitation and reception. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dora’s memory to a charity of one’s choice are welcomed.
