James E. Roberts passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013.
Born in Glace Bay, N.S., on Nov. 2, 1931, he was the son of the late James and Laura (Pippy) Roberts.
Jim retired in 1987 as an air traffic controller following 30 years of service. He enjoyed sports and loved watching his grandchildren play soccer.
He loved to hunt and fish, had an avid interest in genealogy and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was very active in provincial politics in the late 70s and early 80s, and was a founding member of the Confederations of Regions (COR) Party in New Brunswick.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois (Morgan) Roberts; daughters, Laura (Drew) Smith, Doreen Armstrong, Sheryl Roberts, Lois Ann Price; son, James Roberts (Jennifer); sisters, Evelyn Christen (Fred) of Texas, Beverly Turner (Gerald) of Glace Bay; a half-brother, Albert Roberts of Quebec; grandchildren, Michael and Matthew, Greg, Tony, Sean, Meagan, Joshua, Stephanie, Josef, Jenika, Jakob, Jayden; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Amber, Nathan and Maxence; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by grandchildren, Joel Armstrong and Jordan Roberts.
There will be no visitation prior to the funeral service to be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at 1 p.m., Rev. Carol Smith presiding. Interment in Glace Bay in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
