John T. (Don) Pottle

Passed on: January 8th, 2013

(Oct. 16, 1927 - Jan. 8, 2013)
He was called John, Don, Dad, Pop, Skipper and Mr. Pottle, but no matter by what name you called him, he was known as one of the kindest, gentlest and most soft-hearted souls that ever graced this earth. On Tuesday, January 8, 2013, with his wife and daughter by his side, he left this world in the same way that he lived his life, very, very peacefully. Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Harriett Pottle; son, Calvin and son-in-law, Carl Bishop. Leaving to mourn and forever grateful for his unwavering love are his wife of 56 years, Elsie; daughters, Judy Bishop and Debbie Singleton (Don); grandchildren, Alison, Christa, Bradley, Jeremy, Christopher, Michael, and Patrick; nine great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Eleanor Pottle; sister, Amy Currie (Clarenville); as well as a number of other relatives and friends. He wrote no renowned works of literature, he composed no symphonies, he had no great achievements in science or business. Nevertheless, he leaves a legacy far richer than any of these things. He leaves a legacy of love, a legacy of quiet devotion to his family and a legacy of a simple Christian life steadfastly, sincerely and honourably lived. This good and faithful servant has earned his rest. Resting at St. Andrew’s United Church, Whiteway, on Wednesday, January 9 at 7 p.m. until time of funeral. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 12 from St. Andrew’s Church, Whiteway at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Andrew’s United Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Andrew’s United Church Memorial Fund. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Warren’s Funeral Home, Dildo.
