Mary 'Eileen' Sheppard

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Eileen Sheppard of Glace Bay. Eileen passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Glace Bay, Eileen was the daughter of the late Melvin and Hilda (Currie) Sheppard.
For 35 years, she resided in St. Catharines, Ont., and returned home to care for her ailing parents.
She was a member of St. Anthony’s parish, Glace Bay.
Eileen was a very outgoing person who loved the hockey games. When able, she attended the Screaming Eagles on a regular basis. She was also known for dart plays and her love of dancing.
She will be sadly missed by her sister-in-law, Caresse Sheppard; nieces, Sharon (Robert) Murchinson, Coxheath, Jeri (Ralph) Millard, Calgary, Eileen (Dannie) Currie, Glace Bay, Dawn (Pat) Donovan, Cayman Islands; nephews, Terry (Val) Wadden, Halifax, and Kenneth (Colleen) Wadden, Glace Bay. She was grateful for the support and companionship of Hugh MacKinnon in her final years.
Besides her parents, Eileen was predeceased by her brothers, Melvin T. and Bert, sister, Dorothy (Roy) MacPhee, her companion of more than 30 years, Dannie MacComber.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff of 4D of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their kind and compassionate care and to Drs. Oei, Mark Sampson and Steven MacDougall.
In accordance with Eileen’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home.
