Mary Irene Hardaker of Kamloops passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2013 at 97 years of age.

Mary was born on the family homestead, Stony Plain, Alberta, November 8, 1915. She settled in North Kamloops with her parents Edward and Christina Willie some 90 years ago.

Mary is survived by her family: Ted and Lee, Trent and Jill, Graeme and Veki and her sister Ruth Norberg. Memories of Auntie Mary will long be held in the hearts of her nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Milner, her sisters Alice and Esther and her brothers George and Jack.

Mary was a born organizer, which led her down many paths. As a young woman, she was employed by the Hudson's Bay Company and was extremely proud of her achievement in becoming the Manageress of the grocery department. Her business experience continued when she joined her husband Milner in opening one of the first businesses in North Kamloops, Mil's Men's Wear, in 1948.

She served her community for many years through Kinettes, K-39 and Rotary and supported Milner through his years as Alderman. Mary was a member of the Kamloops Golf Club, the Kamloops Fish and Game Association, the Kamloops Curling Club and also served as Charter President of the North Kamloops Curling Club. Fishing, camping, gardening, friends and family were special to her.

The Pinegrove Care Centre was mom's chosen home for the past few years. She was reunited with many friends and was graced with making many new ones as she became part of another family. The thoughtful and compassionate care she received at Pinegrove and from Dr. Schumacher and Dr. Wiedrick is appreciated.

A Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013 in the Kamloops Funeral Home.
