We regret to announce the passing of a much loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Florence MacPherson, Glace Bay, which occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born in Birch Grove, Florence was the daughter of the late Donald John and Margaret MacDonald.
Florence was an employee of the Glace Bay General Hospital OR department for many years until her retirement.
She was a faithful member, elder and Sunday school superintendent of Victoria Presbyterian Church, Birch Grove. Florence was also a faithful member of Jubilee Rebekah Lodge No. 14 for approximately 60 years, where she had served as Past Noble Grand.
Florence is survived by her only son, Rev. Angus Roy MacDonald, his wife Judy and family, West Gore; granddaughter, Allison (Joe) Lake, Moncton; grandson, Ted, Halifax; great-granddaughter Morgan Lake; sisters Annie (Jones) MacKenzie, Isabel Snow, Glace Bay; and brother, Vernon (Mora), Birch Grove; also numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Angus R. MacDonald and her second husband, Neil MacPherson, also sisters, Janet Johnson, Mary Robinson, Sarah MacPherson, Georgina King, Louise MacLean and brothers, Donald, Pringle (her twin) and Robert.
We have lost someone who was so dear to us. It is difficult to imagine our lives without her presence. She was a very loving and giving person. She enjoyed doing for others whether it was preparing meals for shut-ins, neighbours or entertaining at her home. She carried out her Christian call by keeping in touch by phone with those who were shut-in; those ill at home and making sure her family was doing well.
Visitation will be held at Patten Funeral Home, Saturday, Jan. 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with the Jubilee Rebekah Lodge holding its service at 1:45 p.m. Funeral service will take place Sunday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church with Rev Allan MacLellan and Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to C.B. Palliative Care, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice.
