Passed peacefully away at her home in Topsail surrounded by her loving family, on January 16, 2013, Ethel Sarah Somerton (nee Carter), in her 96th year. Predeceased by her husband Harold Somerton (1989), and sisters Bertha Metcalfe, Florence Rex, May Thorburn, and brothers Robert Carter and Frank Carter. Leaving to mourn, daughters: Hilda Mercer (Graham - deceased), Eleanor Stokes (Les - deceased), Rosemary Richards (Roger), Darlene Dawe (Ivan) with whom she resided, and Juanita Somerton; nine grandchildren: Vicki Morris, Renee Zwirz (Tom), Scott Mercer, Deena Fagan (Adam), Dawn Hamlyn (Jason), Darren Richards, Melanie Dawe (Steve Bartlett), Melissa Dawe, and Mandy Lee Dawe; great-grandchildren: Ashley Babb (Jody Williams), Andrew, Carter and Tyler Zwirz, McKenzie Fagan, Grace and Jasper Morris, Brody and Callum Hamlyn, and Liam and Stella Bartlett; great-great-granddaughter: Ocean Williams; sister Elsie Kirby; constant companions Puffy and Banjo; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Roxanne Cooper for her care for mom over the last 4 years. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl, on Thursday, January 17, from 7-9 p.m., Friday, January 18, from 12 noon-9 p.m., and on Saturday, January 19, from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Funeral service will take place from Topsail United Church on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow at Topsail United Cemetery.
