It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Audrey Lillian Gertrude (Davis) Shinske born Aug. 18, 1932 in Griffin, Sask. Audrey passed away on Jan. 17, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. During this time she was surrounded by the love of her family near and afar both in presence and prayers.
Audrey was predeceased by her wonderful husband, Bill Shinkse, Estevan, Sask.; son, Richard Shinske (the apple of her eye) Victoria, B.C., and parents, Lyalle and Anna Davis, Weyburn, Sask.; brothers, Allen Davis (Marina), Mervin Davis (Louise) and brother-in-law, Jack Fehr.
She is survived by sister, Dawn Fehr, Bedford, N.S.; brother, Bern Davis (Bev) Calgary, Alta.; daughter, Robbie Brien (Dr. Don Brien), Sydney; son, John Shinske (Belen), Barcelona, Spain; daughter in-law, Jan Shinske, Victoria, B.C.
Audrey ‘Nano’ was loved by her five beautiful grandchildren who brought her great joy, Grady, Bailey, Will, Jake and John Joseph. She was also a special Nano to many of Jake and Will’s friends in Sydney. She will be greatly missed by all.
Audrey had a great love of life. She enjoyed what she enjoyed to do.
Audrey spent her early years in Weyburn, where she worked for the Department of Transportation for a number of years and later worked for the Beefeater Inn in Estevan until she retired. In 1998 after the passing of her husband, Bill, Audrey moved to Sydney to be with her daughter Robbie and family.
Audrey was a member of the Royal Purple of Canada, Estevan, where she served as the Honoured Royal Lady in the late 60s. She also enjoyed line dancing at the pension hall in Sydney with many of her friends.
She was loved by many people especially her wonderful friend, Martina Coffin.
Cremation has taken place, no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. at SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will take place on March 2 in Estevan, Sask., following an induction service for the late Bill Shinske to the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame.
The family would like to thank Dr. Liam Orrell for his wonderful care and kindness to Audrey over the years.
