It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden death of our beloved father, brother and uncle, James Francis Strickland ‘Brother’, age 50, a resident of North Sydney, on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at this home.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Louis and Theresa (Donovan) Strickland.
He worked in construction for a number of years and a member of the Laborers Union. Brother enjoyed hunting and fishing and will surely be missed by his buddies at the wharf and Indian Beach. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Sydney Mines.
He is survived by the love of his life Patricia ‘Patsy’ MacDougall; his children Rena Strickland and James Strickland in Ontario. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters Elizabeth Broughton, Winnifred MacNeil, both of Guelph, Ont., Brian (Kathy) Strickland, North Sydney, Wayne (Michelle) Strickland, Sydney, Helen Devoe (Dave), North Sydney, Cecil (Leighann) Strickland, Roger Strickland, Tommy (Katrina) Strickland and Neil Strickland, all of Ontario and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Anne Marie McIntyre, Theresa and Brenda Strickland and a brother George Louis ‘Beau’ Strickland.
Visitation for James will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Thomas John officiating. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
