John William Allan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a cherished man. With his family by his side, John passed from complications due to pneumonia on January 18, 2013, at the Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga, Ontario. John was in his 82nd year, dearly loved husband of Christine (Phillips) for 48 years and loving Dad to Rhonda, Leanne (Tim) and David (Louise) and dearly loved Poppa of Heather, Blake and Andrew. Forever in the hearts of brother, Robert (Jean); sister-in-law, Gladys Phillips; and brother-in-law, Mervyn Phillips (Liz).
Met in heaven by his parents, Dr. A.W. and Marjorie Allan; sisters, Norma Jean, Judy; brother-in-law, Herbert Phillips; and in-laws, Albert and Mary Phillips; and his beloved dog, Petey.
John retired from Agriculture Canada in 1988 after an extraordinary career that took him travelling to as far as Brazil to aid the establishment of their meat grading standards. In his youth John attended Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown, Nova Scotia Agriculture College and completed his Bachelor of Science at McGill University (MacDonald Campus) in 1957. John was a long-standing member of the Woodchucks Woodworking group and the Huronsauga Golf and Social Club.
John lived life on his terms with uncompromising standards, a green thumb and a heart of gold, he will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Friends may call at the Turner and Porter ‘Neweduk-Erin Mills Chapel’, 1981 Dundas Street W., Mississauga (905-828-8000) on Monday, January 21, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, January 22, at 3 p.m. Cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
