J. Ellsworth Bassett

With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of J. Ellsworth Bassett, age of 90 years, surrounded by his family, at the Prince County Hospital, Monday, January 21, 2013.
The youngest son of Keir and Mary (Murray) Bassett, Ell was born on April 4, 1922. He was a faithful member of the St. Peter’s Parish Choir for over 70 years, a 4th degree Knights of Columbus and a former CN Marine employee.
Survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret (nee McKenna) Bassett; children: Vivian (David Johnson), Marlene (Garry Burke), Wendall (Paulette Mulligan Dougay), Rita (Ian MacLure), Ann (Jack DesRoches), David (Jane Warren), Deanna (John Greenan); 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Liz Peters; brothers-in-law, Frank (Marg) McKenna, Charlie Murphy and Stan Walchuk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by sisters, Margaret (Ollie) McAvinn, Kathleen (Ambrose) Monaghan, Aeneas (Lorraine) Bassett; granddaughter, Carla Craig, and special niece, Charlene Mulligan.
Resting at the Lawless Funeral Home, Kinkora, for visitation on Wednesday, January 23, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to take place at St. Peter’s Church, Seven Mile Bay, on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or the St. Peter’s Cemetery Fund.
Members of the Knights of Columbus will hold a prayer service at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 6:30.
