Harold Keeping

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and friend, Harold Keeping, on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Ramea, N.L., he was the son of the late Norman and Ethel Jane (Crewe) Keeping.
Harold spent his life on the sea, first as a young fisherman in Newfoundland, and later aboard CN Marine and Marine Atlantic vessels, until he retired in 1985. During that time, and after his retirement, he spent every moment he possibly could aboard his own boat, sailing and fishing for the pure pleasure it brought him.
Harold is survived by his six children, Una (Harold) Sibley, Ramea, N.L., Brian (Kim), Shirley (Greg) Wozniak, both of Guelph, Ont., John (Darlene), Dartmouth, Jim, Moose Jaw, Sask., Robert, Kentville, N.S.; his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his siblings, Onslow (Edie), P.E.I., Vera Hinks, Port Aux Basques, N.L., Nora Pink, Marion Bridge, Ruth (Doug) Stevens, Catalone, Marie Ayre, Sydney, Eileen (Arch) Pink, Ramea, N.L.; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Billard) Keeping and a brother, Emmanuel.
Visitation for Harold will be 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A private family funeral service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Renal Dialysis Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Nova Scotia Kidney Foundation, in Harold’s memory.
