Charles Metz

It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to our loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather and caring friend. Charles Carl Metz, age 94, passed away with his family by his side at the North Cumberland Hall on January 26, 2013.
Born in Springhill, NS on November 25, 1918 he was the son of Jacob and Paranka Metz. Charlie graduated from the Springhill High School and later went on to study to become a diesel mechanic. He worked in the Springhill coal mines for 18 yearrs as a mechanic and later for CNR in Moncton as a diesel mechanic traveling all over Canada. Charlie loved music from an early age and played the violin, accordion and banjo. He was wll known for playing violin at dances all over Cumberland County. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his garden and spending time at his camp in South Athol.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margurite; daughter Debbie (Ron) Legere of Oxford; son, Jerry (Brenda) Metz of Amherst; 3 grandsons, Richard, Jerry and Jamie; great grandson, Brandon; 2 great granddaughters, Simone and Lia; as well as several nieces and nephews. Charlie was a family man and loved his family dearly, everything he did was for his family, he will be missed by all.
Besides his parents, Charlie was predeceased by his first wife, Darlene Lutz; sisters, Mary and Annie; brothers,Willie & John; granddaughter, Tracy and grandson, Charlie.
Arrangements have been entrusted to AH Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill (597-2361). Family and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Monday, January 28, 2013 from 2-4 pm. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, January, 29, 2013 at 2pm. Burial in Hillside Cemetery in the spring. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Charlie may do so to a charity of your choice.
