Henery Harold Lloyd "Hal" Singleton

After a courageous battle with colon and liver cancer, Hal passed peacefully at the Cascades Hospice in Chilliwack, BC. Hal was pre-deceased by his wife Ona (Kavanaugh) and brother Seldon. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Greg (Laurie), Jeff (Kristy), Lori (Geoff Timmins), and step-children Nancy (Bob Besner) and Christiane (Daemon Laidlaw). He was loving grandfather of Devin, Kyle, Brendan, Brayden, Shane, Karly, and Dacoda. Hal was survived by his brothers Clayton, Bruce, and Risden. He will be greatly missed by his cousin and close friend Irma Richards and his many friends from coast to coast. Hal accomplished many things in life. He was proud of his 33 year military career, which included being the Canadian Forces Fire Marshal; past president of the Canadian Fire Marshals and Fire Commissioners Association; Chair of NATO Working Group; past President of the RCAF Association; two years with UN peace keeping in Damascus, Syria; and many other accomplishments. His civilian career included Federal Liberal candidate for Fraser Valley East in the 1993 and 2007 federal elections; Chair of the Board of Referees for HRDC; and member of the Veterans Affairs Review and Appeal Board. Hal was also very committed to his community through service. He was a proud Rotarian, Shriner, Mason, Elder at Cook’s Presbyterian Church and volunteer. Member of the Royal Canadian Legion branches in Eldon, PEI and in Chilliwack, BC. In recognition of Hal’s life-long contributions to his country and community, he was recently awarded the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal. Hal lived life to the fullest and made every day count. His kindness, leadership and continuous help to others was inspiring. Hal’s Celebration of Life Service will be held at Cook’s Presbyterian Church on Monday February 11 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations in Hal's honour to the Chilliwack Hospice Society (www.chilliwackhospice.org).
