ROY BARON

ROY BARON

Born In: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Born: September 19th, 1942

Passed on: February 6th, 2013

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing away of Roy Baron at home on February 6th.

Roy was born in Edmonton on September 19, 1942, the only child of Walter & Edith Baron who predeceased him.

After growing up in Edmonton, he joined the Navy Reserve in 1958 after completing high school and being rejected by the Air Force for being too big. In 1961 Roy joined the RCMP where he served for 13 years before his entrepreneurial bug became too hard to resist. Starting in 1975 with the Inlander Pub, Roy's business acumen lead him to start Duffy's Pub in 1984 and Cactus Jacks in 1986, businesses which continue to this day, as well as a short stint as a pilot with his own commercial air service, BC Central Air.

Roy was a "larger than life" person who enjoyed life to the fullest whether flying a plane, driving his Prevost around North America or fishing in his boat off the west coast of Vancouver Island. Though he may have appeared gruff and imposing on first meeting, one soon realized he was a warm, caring and generous person.

His wife Joyce, daughter Deneen (Duncan), son Murray (Tammy) and grandkids Justin, Sydney, Markus and Ryker, as well as his many friends will greatly miss him as the wonderful husband, father and grampa and the great friend he was to all of us.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 16th from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Cactus Jacks.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Kamloops SPCA.
