It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Frederick ‘Fred’ Morgan Gallop, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, just days after he celebrated his 85th birthday.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late John ‘Jack’ and Blanche (Hillier) Gallop.
Fred was a sales representative for Quaker Oats Company of Canada for 28 years retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Kiwanis Golden K and very active with the Meals on Wheels program. He was a former member of the Seaview Golf and Curling Club, North Sydney. He was a clerk of session and secretary of the Board of Stewards at St. Columba United Church in Leitches Creek, and a founding cub leader with the 1st Leitches Creek Cub Pack in the church. Fred was an active outdoorsman who loved fly fishing for salmon and travelling with his wife Nellie in their trailer.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nellie (Beaton) Gallop; his three sons, Fred (Caroline) Gallop, Beaverbank, and their children, Ross Gallop, Lower Sackville, and Rod (Ann-Marie) Gallop, Harbour Breton; son, Brian (Susan) Gallop, Balls Creek, and their children, Kim (Troy) Roper, Florence, Doug (Laura) Ross, Ottawa; Darren (Alison) Gallop, Sydney, Kenny (Kelly) Gallop, Toronto, Christina Gallop, Balls Creek; son, Paul (Sharon) Gallop, Upper Leitches Creek, and their children, Blair Gallop, Hammonds Plains, and Cynthia Gallop, Upper Leitches Creek; his seven great-grandchildren, Abigail and Cooper Gallop, Khris and Morgan Roper, Matthew, Kyra and Lauchlan Ross; his brother, Jack (Sandy) Gallop, Toronto; and also surviving are a number nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by his sisters, Ada Gillis and Daisy in infancy.
Visitation for Fred will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday in the funeral home chapel with Nancy Whitney Latham, DLM officiating. Burial in Calvin United Church Cemetery, Upper Leitches Creek, at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Kiwanis Ceilidh Golden K, Meals on Wheels.
