COVEY, Mr. Richard ‘Stephen’ December 16, 1961 to February 25, 2013. Steve passed away peacefully in Calgary at the Peter Lougheed Hospital. He will be lovingly missed by his wife Yvonne (Lambert) Covey of Calgary, AB, his three sons Ashley Dyck (Alicia) of Swift Current, SK, Michael Covey (Sarah) of Calgary, AB and Christopher Covey of Saskatoon, SK and his five granddaughters, Hailey, Katie and Presley of Swift Current, Emma of Calgary and Jade of Saskatoon. Steve also leaves to mourn his mother Pat Laverdiere (Elphege) of Swift Current, SK, his brother Michael Covey (Marina) of Saskatoon, his sister Patricia Schryver (Jeff) of Leduc, AB, his step-sister Claire Laverdiere of Edmonton, AB, plus numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and friends. Steve is predeceased by his Father Richard ‘Dick’ Covey (1992), sister Mary Jane Covey (1958), step brother Denis Laverdiere (2011), maternal grandparents Ada Reid (2007), Alf Reid (1992), and paternal grandparents Joseph and Bessie Swanzey. Steve attended Central School, Beatty, then the Comp in Swift Current. He then moved to Calgary where he attended SAIT and graduated as a journeyman autobody mechanic. Steve and Yvonne Lambert met and fell in love in Swift Current. There they raised Michael and Christopher, later moving to Calgary in 1989. Steve worked at various body shops, ending his career in Clavet, SK at Prairie Steel painting farm equipment. Prior to his first stroke at Easter 2012, Steve was a retired husband and grandfather living in Calgary. Steve spent the last ten months of his life in rehab programs at the Foothills medical centre, unit 58 and Ponoka’s Halvor Johnson Brain Injury unit. Steve struggled for most of his life with diabetes and the ways of life, but still maintained being a loving husband, a responsible son, a caring big brother, an inspirational father, and a helpful friend. Steve will always be loved and missed by all the hearts he touched and smiles he created with his wild ways. He will be rocking in his new free world! There was a memorial service held on March 2, 2013 at 2:00 at the Parkside Memorial Funeral Home in Swift Current. Donations in Steve’s memory can be made to the heart and stroke foundation.
